OLIN SUPERFUND SITE McIntosh, Alabama

Olin Corporation and BASF Corporation (Olin/BASF) jointly engaged WSP to serve as supervising contrac tor and to undertake the Remedial Design (RD) and Remedial Action (RA) of the remedy specified in the EPA Record of Decision (ROD) for the Olin Superfund Site Op erable Unit 2 (Olin OU-2), located in McIntosh, Alabama. Previous investigations at the Olin OU-2 site have docu mented the presence of mercury, hexachlorobenzene (HCB) dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) and its isomers and degradation products (collectively DDTx) in soil, surface water, groundwater, biota, and sediments at the site, collectively con stituents of concern or CoCs. The previous studies have generally documented the lateral extent of CoCs in sediments to a degree sufficient for the EPA to establish the preferred remedy as a cap/ cover over the impacted sediments.
