that traditional drainage solutions often transfer problems further downstream, negatively im pacting the environment and water resources. Our stormwater expertise includes projects related to Clean Water Act initiatives such as compliance services for National Pollutant Dis charge Elimination System (NPDES) and Munic ipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4s). Our stormwater managers have more than 20 years of NPDES experience and have been respon sible for the development and compliance of hundreds of NPDES facilities from concept and design to construction and inspection. They have overseen many stormwater retrofit projects since the early 1990s when water quality im provements for old development were becom ing of interest to MS4 clients. Our stormwater professionals are experts in ap plying the State’s stormwater rules, including the guidelines in the State’s proposed Environmental Resource Permitting (ERP) Applicant’s Hand book. WSP has successfully implemented a num ber of major stormwater, drainage, restoration and retrofit projects applying best management practices (BMPs) to serve the unique needs of each project. We have a very good understand ing of retrofit design in areas of well drained soils. Our typical design approach first includes find ing conceptual locations for the most cost effec tive and appropriate stormwater BMP location. Our modeling efforts typically include repetitive model runs using an infiltration tool such as

PercPak in the ICPR software. Such tools allow us to exhaustively assess the most appropriate design for a BMP site and with these tools, actu al volume infiltrated or pollutant load removed can be computed. WSP has been involved with implementing and developing various structur al and non-structural BMPs. There are various forms that BMPs can take, such as stormwater ponds (wet or dry), grassy swales, inlet systems, and filter marshes to name a few. These are all effective BMPs and can all be built in an aesthetically pleasing manner, so as to blend in with and enhance the community and sur rounding land uses, whether in a natural setting or a developed community. Our designs are sustainable and (where applica ble) support Federal agency goals for reduction of energy and other resource use. WSP has Leadership in Energy and Environmen tal Design (LEED) Accredited Professional (AP) designers, and is a member of the Green Building Council. From concept to construction to main tenance, our designs are cost effective and easy to maintain while accomplishing project goals. WSP’s delivery of engineering design services is organized to demonstrate a well defined process in accordance with industry standards. WSP is proficient in using various software for stormwa ter attenuation and treatment design, including ICPR, SWMM, XPSWMM, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, StormCAD, PONDS and Modflow.
