Land Use Permitting Identification of local land use and zoning requirements as well as coordination with local counties is critical to ensure that all potential areas of concern are addressed. Appropriate planning and timing are important as many counties require meetings and various permitting and supporting documentation be provided before any work can be started. WSP has experience and various contacts (state environmental agencies, county and even municipal level permitting authorities, railroad commissions, etc.) that can be beneficial to the permitting process, and can provide guidance and direction to ensure the appropriate contacts are made, ensuring there are no issues with timing/permitting issues.

WSP natural gas experience includes well over 1,000 pipeline transmission and distribution pipelines and nearly every associated facility needed from the upstream to downstream market. Our projects have ranged in size from small diameter pipe up to 42-inches in diameter and over 500 miles in length. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Notices and Requirements Our staff routinely helps our electric utility clients obtain FAA clearances via a variety of services, including preparing FAA structure registration applications; preparing the FAA determination form (Form 7460-1, Notice of Proposed Construction or Alteration) and utilizing the Notice of Criteria tool as a due diligence measure and to verify whether FAA permitting is a requirement. In addition, some WSP staff are FAA Qualified Airport Wildlife Biologists, providing further understanding of FAA coordination requirements.

WSP recently assisted American Electric Power (AEP) determine airspace impacts of transmission structures on several projects where these structures were to be in the near vicinity of airports. A typical assignment involved the following tasks: Researching the applicable Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) Part 77, FAA Airport Organization and the FAA Air Traffic Organization approach and NAVAID protected, and critical surfaces associated with the nearby airports and runways. Developing 3D AutoCAD modeling of the controlling protected airspace and transmission line alignment alternatives.
