Geotechnical and Materials SOQ
Dams, Levees, Reservoirs and Water Control Structures Implementation of monitoring and inspection programs to analyze dams and levees using standard protocols and advanced monitoring systems; consulting and engineering to identify
WSP designs, inspects, and maintains facilities such as dams, levees, reservoirs, and pumping stations. Our subject matter experts cover structural, geotechnical, electrical, mechanical, and tunneling aspects. We support the development, operation, and maintenance of hydropower, dam, and water resource projects. Our expertise includes Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) dam safety, civil, structural, geotechnical, and hydraulics/hydrology engineering Our comprehensive capabilities include dam safety; condition assessment; dam remediation; feasibility studies; preliminary and detailed civil/ structural/geotechnical engineering and design; design- build delivery; licensing/permitting; and time-sensitive Emergency Action Plans (EAP) and security evaluations, including plans and reports. We are experts in specialty tasks including penstocks, tunnels and pipelines; gate inspections and reliability analyses; concrete assessment and repair; finite element modeling; instrumentation monitoring and evaluation; hydrology and hydraulics; geotechnical investigations; seismic evaluations; bulkheads and caissons; embankment and levee inspections; operations modeling; environmental studies; settlement and seepage analyses; alkali-aggregate reaction (AAR) and slot cutting; GIS support; and post- tensioned anchors.
improvement and rehabilitation measures. WSP has a proven record of accomplishment of providing dam designs that are safe as well as practical and economical. Our geotechnical design includes an integration of geology, geotechnical engineering, and advanced analysis techniques for analyzing and evaluating foundation conditions, potential embankment materials, alternative cross-sections, axial alignments, and other considerations such as embankment penetrations, armoring and revetments, waves and overtopping, and construction details and appurtenances. We use geotechnical exploration techniques including SPT borings, CPT soundings, GPR, and other geophysical techniques to provide in-situ soil, rock, and groundwater data analysis. Our engineering analysis team includes our in-house modelers who use state-of–the-art slope stability and groundwater computer programs. WSP’s experts specialize in flood control through carefully planned, designed, and operated hydraulic structures. They work with various facilities, including levees, dams, canals, pump stations, detention basins, and impoundments. Services include flood risk assessment, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, planning, design, and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) mapping.
