Seismic Engineering WSP’s world-leading seismic engineering, construction and risk evaluation seismic expertise spans bridges, tunnels, and utility structures, contributing to disaster-resilient infrastructure worldwide. Our team of experts use the latest earthquake engineering techniques, including performance based design, geotechnical analysis, and 3D structural modeling. They predict behavior and potential damage of bridges during earthquakes. WSP’s goal is to ensure bridges withstand seismic forces while meeting owner-defined performance criteria for emergency response and economic recovery. They work with international seismic design codes and standards (AASHTO, Eurocode, ASCE, etc.). Our experience includes new and retrofit design, risk assessment, and post earthquake repairs globally. Additionally, WSP’s seismic engineering keeps utility tunnels operable during earthquakes. They assess gassy or contaminated ground conditions and design tunnels (including TBM, SEM, and micro-tunneling) to withstand seismic events.

Deep and Shallow Structural Foundations

Our geotechnical engineering teams have extensive experience designing structural foundations, which allows us to design practical solutions for new development as well as remediation projects. Whether we are dealing with buildings, bridges, roadways, retaining walls, or other infrastructure, our professionals are well suited to gather all information necessary to make appropriate foundation design decisions. Our geotechnical staff has experience with varied subsurface conditions which allow us to efficiently design economical, dependable foundation systems. We have provided analysis, design recommendations, and construction quality control for the following: z Auger-cast piles z Caissons z Mats z Mini-piles z Shallow foundations

z Column footings z Deep foundations z Driven piles

z Slab-on-grade z Strip footings

In addition, we have extensive experience in the remediation of structural foundations such as compaction grouting, chemical grouting, and underpinning.
