COMMUNITY, BUSINESS, AND INFRASTRUCTURE RISK ANALYSIS Climate change can affect a company’s assets, oper ations and value chains, ultimately impacting financial performance. The world’s response, coupled with efforts to transition to a lower-carbon economy, generates additional risks, as well as opportunities, as regulations, markets and technologies evolve. WSP has more than 100 in-house, U.S.-based SECC technical experts with easy access to climate adaptation, infrastructure, data center, energy and engineering experts across the broad er company who develop tailored, practical and cost-effective solutions to identified climate risks. Our professionals are trans parent and ensures traceability of our analysis and makes data and work products readily available to our clients. We summarize our key findings and recommendations in clear terms that help companies successfully integrate climate change considerations into their risk management, governance and strategic planning. WSP’s Sustainability, Energy and Climate Change (SECC) climate risk team helps private sector companies, utilities and government entities mainstream climate considerations across business functions by en hancing resilience against the physical and financial impacts of climate change and capitalizing on opportunities stemming from the transition to a low-carbon economy and prepare for climate-related regulations.

We address investor and other stakeholder interest in climate and environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. Our team develops internal capacity and governance structures that initiate and implement decarbonization and climate resilience planning.

CLIMATE CHANGE RISK ANALYSIS, FINANCIAL VALUATION, AND REPORTING

WSP helps clients assess and plan for the full spectrum of climate risks, and then holistically develop and implement critical climate solutions in tandem that are fully integrated with broader operational strategies. We can help integrate climate-informed decision-making into your planning process es and development, locking in resilience and sustainability for the long term. As the impacts of the climate crisis strengthen worldwide, un derstanding and preparing for the climate risks that face organi zations, regardless their activity, size or location, is more important than ever before. And with business strategies, actions and initiatives increasingly scrutinized through an ESG lens, organizations need to demonstrate their sustainability stewardship within their geographic, business and social environments. Of the countless impacts that climate change is wreaking, disruption to the water around us, whether too much, too little, or in its quality, can have the biggest ramifications/far-reaching consequences. We help cli ents to put water stewardship at the heart of their climate strategies. Managing risks by planning with resilience in mind All organizations, public or private, need to assess, quantify and adapt to climate risks, while simultaneously analyzing the impacts of their own environmental footprints. This is particularly so as the range of entities that are mandated to expand reporting beyond non-financial factors, e.g., implementation of Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclo sures (TCFD) framework.

By benchmarking GHGs, undertaking climate risks assessments and setting science-based targets, they will be able to respond appropriately and authoritatively in their disclosures to regulators and/or applications to funding agencies with clear, comparable and consistent information. It will also demonstrate the strength of their sustainability ambitions and climate risk preparedness to investors, shareholders and other stakeholders, as globally we accelerate our efforts to secure a greener, cleaner and more resilient future.

24

Climate Change and Sustainability | SOQ

Of all the indicators of climate change, water — our reliance on, exposure to, and use of — is perhaps the most palpable. Every establishment is fundamen tally dependent to varying degrees on water, of the right quality, across their assets, networks and systems. Having in the past taken its availability for granted, growing water scarcity and disruption to supplies can have major repercussions on operations on multiple levels. In addition, the risks from extreme water-related weather events, e.g., drought, flooding, storms, sea level rise, are also rising. In short, water supply and management is becoming increasingly precariously balanced in a majority of regions, with implications not just for our clients but also the communities in which they operate. Unlocking the Opportunities None of these challenges can be addressed in isolation. WSP is po sitioned to help our clients to face multiple, converging business threats and pressures in a fast-changing environment. We can help from assessment to implementation of resilient solutions. As a multidisciplinary engineering firm, we draw upon the full range of disciplines across our global multi-sector teams to plan and develop climate risk adaptation measures that are embedded within broader strategies. Additionally, by incorporating the expertise of our sustainability specialists and advisory teams, we can provide solutions that maxi mize the ESG values and opportunities of climate action, to the benefit not just of our clients but also their stake holders and the communities in which they operate.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT AND MANAGEMENT

It is increasingly important for clients to better under stand, manage and mitigate their impact on the natural environment (air, water, soil, biodiversity) and to minimize their exposure to climate-related risks. With the climate crisis we are all facing, there is increased public awareness, climate regulations, corporate environmental, social and governance (ESG) targets and pressure from investors to apply ESG criteria in decision-making and project delivery. We help navigate these complexities by providing comprehensive environmental planning, assessment, management and compli ance services that meet these objectives while balancing sustainabil ity outcomes with economic growth and social value. Our Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Plan ning teams specialize in the process of securing approvals, permitting, licensing, and planning support. We work with organizations focused on investing, developing, or expanding existing assets, seeking on-going maintenance for their operations and infrastructure, or the closure of their facilities. We are involved in the full lifecycle delivery of projects, in cluding the strategic advisory, investment, procurement, due diligence, planning, construction, and monitoring phases. In each case, we work to deliver positive outcomes for all stakeholders.
